Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.

The team did not mention the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

Statistically, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
